Nov 20, 2014 - EDF EN Canada Inc, part of French group EDF Energies Nouvelles, on Wednesday kicked off commercial operations at its 24.6-MW Le Granit wind farm in Quebec.
The project is a joint development between EDF EN, which owns a 70% stake, and local firm Energie du Granit, held by the regional county municipality Le Granit and 16 of its municipalities. Borea Construction was in charge of the building activities.
The Le Granit wind park is situated in the administrative region of Estrie, comprising 12 Senvion turbines. The output of the machines will be sold to local utility Hydro-Quebec under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
The municipality of Saint-Robert-Bellarmin will get a contribution of CAD 61,500 (USD 54,200/EUR 43,200) each year during the plant’s 20-year lifespan.
The Le Granit scheme is one of the seven wind projects that EDF EN Canada won through calls for tenders by Hydro-Quebec in 2008 and 2010. By the end of 2015, the firm will have switched on 1,374 MW of wind and solar farms in Canada, it noted. Last month, EDF EN cut the ribbon on its 24.6-MW La Mitis community wind farm in Quebec.
