EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) today said it has commissioned 27.7 MW of additional capacity at two of its wind farms in Portugal.
The renewables arm of French energy group EDF SA (EPA:EDF) has added 23 MW of capacity to the 240-MW Ventominho wind farm and 4.7 MW of capacity to the 36-MW Arga wind farm. The wind power plants were originally commissioned in 2008 and 2006, respectively.
Ten additional turbines were installed at Ventominho, bringing its overall number of turbines to 130 and its capacity to 263 MW. The Arga facility got two more turbines on the top of the 12 already existing, with its capacity increasing to 40.7 MW.
The annual electricity generation of the two wind farms is enough to meet needs of almost 245,000 Portuguese households, according to the announcement.
EDF EN owns the projects together with Eolverde and DST. The extensions bring the company's gross installed capacity in Portugal to 535 MW.
