Sep 12, 2014 - UK green energy supplier Ecotricity intends to complete construction of its 9.2-MW Galsworthy wind farm in Devon, England by the end of this month, the Western Morning News said Thursday.
The four wind turbines that will power the facility are currently being installed at a site in Torridge district. The machines are expected to start producing power by the middle of October, Ecotricity’s head of construction Steve Ellis said, as quoted by the newspaper.
Ecotricity secured planning permission from the Torridge District Council in September 2008, according to the project’s website. Once up and running, the Galsworthy wind park will be able to generate more than 22 million kWh of electricity per year, enough for almost 7,000 homes. Its output will also help save nearly 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Earlier this summer, the High Court turned down Ecotricity’s appeal against the government’s decision to dismiss the 9.2-MW Black Ditch wind project in South West England. The proposed facility was expected to generate 22.3 million kWh of electricity each year, enough to meet the needs of 7,769 households.
