Dunav Osiguranje Starts Building Serbia’s First Solar Plant

BELGRADE (Serbia), June 27 (SeeNews) – Serbian insurer Dunav Osiguranje [BEL:DNOS] said it launched on Monday in cooperation with local power utility EPS the construction of the country’s first solar plant.

The 5.0 megawatt facility will be built in the mountain region of Zlatibor, in western Serbia, Dunav Osiguranje said in a statement on its website.

Local media reported on Monday that the investment in the project is worth around 15 million euro ($21 million). An installed capacity of one megawatt will be put in place during the first phase, due for completion by the summer of 2012, at a cost of 2.0 million to 3.0 million euro, news broadcaster B92 (www.b92.net) quoted EPS director general Dragomir Markovic as saying.

Dunav Osiguranje said in its statement that the solar power station is part of a bigger project launched jointly by the two companies to build a total of 50 small renewable energy power plants.
