August 10 (Renewables Now) - Madrid-based solar developer Dhamma Energy said today it will build an 87.5-MWp solar park in France following the fourth call for solar tenders in the country.

The Spanish company has won 36.5 MWp of the overall capacity in the tender round, which awarded a total of 720 MW at an average price of EUR 58.2 (USD 66.7) per MWh. Earlier this year, it secured 51 MWp for the same project in a previous call for tenders, it said in a statement.

The proposed 87.5-MWp photovoltaic (PV) park will be installed at a former NATO air base in Laon-Athies, Hauts-de-France region, in the northern part of France. The Spanish firm expects to start building the facility next year. Dhamma Energy will take care of its construction and will also operate it following completion. It has been working on the project’s development since 2010.

Dhamma Energy noted that France is one of its major markets and it already has 40 MWp of operational PV capacity there. Additional plants totalling 100 MWp are planned to be connected to the grid in 2018 and 2019, it added.

At present, Dhamma Energy has solar projects in 12 countries in Europe, Latin America and Africa.
