A delegation from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) visited London to encourage UK companies to participate in clean and renewable energy projects in Dubai and the UAE.
At meetings in London, including with a large number of British energy companies, DEWA's head Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer presented the company's projects and initiatives on clean and renewable energy, according to an announcement Saturday on DEWA's website.
Al Tayer said that 5,000 UK-based businesses now operate in the UAE and that the UAE is the UK's 12th largest trading partner.
"Through the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 we aim to provide 7% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy sources by 2020. This target will increase to 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050," he said. The strategy involves building the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with a planned capacity of 5 GW by 2030 and total investment of USD 13.6 billion (EUR 12bn).
DEWA's smart grid strategy, meanwhile, includes 11 programmes with a total investment of USD 2 billion up to 2020, Al Tayer notes.
Another aim of the visit was to promote the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) annual USD-1-million global award to find sustainable solutions to water scarcity around the world.
