Delta Lloyd insurance of wind farm capacity grows to 6,000 MW - report
Mar 5, 2014 - Dutch insurer Delta Lloyd's (AMS:DL) has increased its offshore wind farm coverage in Europe to a combined capacity of 6,000 MW in the past two years from 1,000 MW before that, industry website Windenergie nieuws reported Tuesday.
This represents the electricity needs of six million households.
The insurer established two years ago a special wind energy team dealing with insurance of offshore wind farms. The company has insured 25 offshore facilities in Europe with a total of 1,650 wind turbines. In the Netherlands these include among others the Prinses Amaliawindpark and Luchterduinen.
Delta Lloyd has also insured wind parks in the UK, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland and Portugal.
The insurance offered by Delta Lloyd covers not only the construction of the wind farms but also its operation.
According to Delta Lloyd's underwriting manager of technical insurance, Maarten Mulder, the market for offshore wind energy will grow in the coming years. So, the company aims to keep its position in the sector.
