Danish Vestas aims to save 10-15% on transportation costs - report
Dec 5, 2012 - Danish Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) is targeting savings of 10-15% on its transport budget, Mette Heileskov Bulow, chief specialist in Vestas Transport Intelligence, was cited as saying to Danish daily Borsen on Tuesday.
The shift from trucks to trains will play a key role to achieve this goal, she added.
Vestas annually uses 28,000 lorries to transport wind turbines. The group's transportation costs are estimated at DKK 3 billion (USD 527.1m/EUR 402.1m), Borsen said, quoted by Danish newswire Ritzau Finans.
Vestas was the first company to have transported a wind mill on a train in Europe and this has stirred great attention in the transport sector, the daily said.
