Danish NKT bags EUR 80.5m cable order for wind farm project
Jul 18, 2011 - Danish NKT Holding A/S (CPH:NKT) said today its unit NKT Cables would supply equipment worth DKK 600 million (USD 113.3m/EUR 80.5m) for the West of Duddon Sands wind farm project in the Irish Sea.
The customers are Danish state-owned utility Dong Energy A/S and UK-based ScottishPower Renewables, part of Iberdrola Renovables, the renewable energy unit of Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (MCE:IBE).
NKT Cables will manufacture and deliver 82 km (50.95 miles) of 155-kV export cables integrated with 48 core optical fibres and 22 km of 155-kV land cables. The company will also supply and install 155-kV accessories for both the onshore and offshore part of the wind farm.
The cables will be manufactured in 2012 and 2013, and installation is due in 2013.
The West of Duddon Sands project will be located some 14 km southwest of the Barrow-in-Furness coastline in the Irish Sea. The farm, with a capacity of 389 MW, is expected to become operational in 2014.
