Councillors clear 49.9-MW solar project in eastern England

Dec 23, 2014 - Тhe planning committees of two district councils have approved the construction of a 49.9-MW solar farm on a former airbase in Norfolk, eastern England, according to a statement from last Thursday.

The Broadland District and North Norfolk District Councils have allowed Scottow Moor Solar Ltd to build the plant at the Norfolk County Council-owned site now known as Scottow Enterprise Park. The start of construction work is scheduled for early next year, while completion is expected to occur by the end of March 2015.

The project will be carried out in two phases, with panels covering the majority of open space on the 300-acre (121.4-ha) site. The installation is unlikely to impede the use of the rest of the land. Moreover, it will create an opportunity for grazing underneath the modules, the statement says.

Scottow Moor Solar has developed the project in partnership with Norwich-based Red Triangle Energy. The solar park has the potential to generate over GBP 10 million (USD 15.6m/EUR 12.7m) in income for the county council over a period of 25 years.
