Conergy Australia to supply mounting systems for 1.3 MW solar park in Tonga
Jul 23, 2012 - German solar company Conergy AG (ETR:CGYK) said today its Australian subsidiary will supply mounting systems for the first grid-connected solar park, which has a capacity of 1.3 MW, in the Southern Pacific kingdom of Tonga.
Tonga is currently totally dependent on diesel generators for its electricity supply, which results in high costs.
Therefore, the local government has set ambitious targets with its Energy Roadmap 2010-20 programme and aims to raise the share of power generated by renewable energy sources to 50% by the end of 2012.
The project developer for the solar plant is New Zealand-based Meridian Energy, while the implementation of the project will be carried out by Reid Technology, a partner of Conergy since 2007.
The official inauguration of the plant is planned for July 24, 2012.
