The clean energy share in Colombia’s power production fell to 80.75% in February from 85.98% the month earlier, as the country’s total hydroelectric output dropped by 4.77%, according to the latest figures released by national grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados.
The useful volume of Colombia’s water dams declined to 59.5% in February, while hydro inflows were 6.9% below the historical monthly average. The decrease is normal for the current summer season, and there is no risk that the system will fail to meet the demand, said Jaime Alejandro Zapata Uribe, manager of XM's national dispatch centre.
Colombia’s system generated 6,174.75 GWh of electricity in February. This volume translated into 220.53 GWh generated per day on average, up by 2.14% month-on-month. Renewables and other clean sources accounted for 178.06 GWh/day on average, down by 4.08% compared to January due to a lower hydro power output.
In the absence of hydro, daily average non-renewable power generation rose by 40.3% month-on-month and the share of wind and solar increased compared to January.
