The share of clean power in Colombia’s total electricity production rose to 85.09% in March from 76.4% in February, according to the latest monthly report released by national grid operator XM Compania de Expertos en Mercados.
Renewables, including large hydropower plants (HPPs), ramped up their output by 10.64% month-on-month in March to churn out 177.56 GWh per day on average. At the same time, power plants using fossil fuels reduced production levels by 37.31% to an average of 31.11 GWh/day.

Colombia’s power sector in total generated 6,468.58 GWh in March, averaging 208.66 GWh/day, down by 0.68% compared to February.
The nation’s demand for electricity rose by 4.83% year-on-year in March to 6,535.31 GWh, and some 62 GWh had to be imported from Ecuador, XM said.
