Chinese Co To Develop 300 Mln Euro Solar Project in Serbia

BELGRADE (Serbia), August 24 (SeeNews) – An unnamed Chinese company will develop a 300 million euro ($434 million) solar power project in the southern Serbian municipality of Vranje, the local authorities said.

Company representatives and Vranje mayor Miroljub Stojcic signed earlier this week a cooperation agreement on the project, which will involve the installation of solar panels on an area of 500 hectares, the Vranje city administration said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

It did not name the Chinese company, saying only that it is the largest private company in China involved in the construction of renewable energy facilities.

The official signing of the contract for the implementation of the project is scheduled for September 12, the statement said.

Serbian news agency Beta (www.beta.rs) reported on Wednesday that apart from the solar plant, the project envisages building a solar panel factory at a later stage. It added the solar plant will have a capacity of 5.0 megawatts.
