Centrica, Dong Energy submit initial plans for 2.2-GW Irish Sea wind farm

Jul 16, 2012 - UK energy group Centrica plc (LON:CNA) and Danish state-owned Dong Energy have submitted with the National Infrastructure Planning authority initial proposals for a 2.2-GW wind farm in the Irish Sea.

The proposal, available on the authority's website, envisages the construction of between 147 and 440 turbine, depending on their capacity, close to Anglesey and the Isle of Man. A planning application is expected in the closing quarter of 2013, while offshore construction is to commence in 2017, according to the preliminary plans.

Centrica and Dong intend to build the wind farm through their 50/50 joint venture Celtic Array Ltd.
