Brazilian developer Casa dos Ventos Energias Renovaveis and energy efficiency firm Comerc Eficiencia have signed a pre-contract with Pecem Industry and Port Complex (CIPP) to build a green hydrogen and ammonia plant with up to 2.4 GW of electrolysis capacity in northeast Brazil.
CIPP, a joint venture (JV) between the government of the state of Ceara and the Port of Rotterdam, said on Monday that project is currently in the environmental licensing and basic design stages with the first phase expected to start operating in 2026.
Once up and running, the plant will be capable of producing more than 1,000 tonnes of hydrogen per day, enabling the delivery of 2.2 million tonnes of green ammonia per year and offsetting some 430,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) each month.
The pre-contract comes after Comerc Eficiencia and Casa dos Ventos signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ceara’s government and another with the CIPP to ensure their participation in the project.
This is the third pre-contract signed for the hydrogen hub in the Pecem complex which also has 24 MoUs with Brazilian and foreign companies all tied to the development of hydrogen production.
In September, AES Brasil Energia SA (BVMF:AESB3) sealed a pre-contract for a project that would see it build a plant with a capacity to produce up to 2 GW of green hydrogen and 800,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year at the Pecem port complex.
