Jul 25, 2014 - Australian firm Carnegie Wave Energy Ltd (ASX:CWE) said today it will team up with the University of Adelaide in a AUD-1.8-million (USD 1.7m/EUR 1.3m) project to develop control strategies for wave energy converters.
In particular, the partners will research and develop new control strategies for submerged point absorber wave technologies like Carnegie’s own CETO system. The goal is to maximise power output by matching the wave energy converter characteristics to the oscillating forces of the waves, Carnegie explained.
The three-year project is in part backed by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage grant of AUD 259,000, complemented by AUD 66,000 in cash provided by Carnegie and additional in-kind contributions.
Meanwhile, the company announced earlier in the week that it will take part in an AUD-1.3-million national study conducted by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) that aims to develop a wave energy atlas and enhance the evaluation of wave energy extraction on the marine environment. Carnegie’s Perth wave energy project in Western Australia will be monitored for the purpose of the project.
