Bulgaria’s NEK to receive 7.5 mln euro compensation for renewable energy purchase

Sofia (Bulgaria), December 18 (SeeNews) – Bulgarian state-owned electricity company NEK will receive 14.7 million levs ($10.3 million/7.5 million euro) from emissions trading by way of compensation for the obligation to purchase electricity from renewable energy sources at regulated prices, the government said on Wednesday.

The greenhouse gas emissions trading is estimated to generate 236.2 million levs this year, which should be used to finance projects in the energy sector, the government said in a press release.

“These provisions will result in a positive effect on the end energy prices for customers on the regulated and the free markets,” the press release said.
