Bulgaria to launch three tenders for hydro power plants upgrade - EBRD

Sofia (Bulgaria), January 21 (SeeNews) – Bulgarian state-owned electricity company NEK will launch three tenders to award contracts for the rehabilitation of the Belmeken, Sestrimo and Chaira hydro power plants worth a total 32 million euro ($43.3 million), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said.

The works will be financed by grant funds provided by the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF), administered by the EBRD and its own financial sources, the international lender said in a procurement notice on Monday.

They comprise rehabilitation of Chaira Pump Storage hydro power plant (PSHPP), rehabilitation of Belmeken PSHPP, Sestrimo hydro power plant (HPP) and Momina Klisura HPP, as well as consultancy services for project management, procurement, monitoring and on-site supervision of project implementation and/or for support in achieving compliance with national, EU and EBRD environmental requirements.

Procurement is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2014.

The contracts implementation period, including consultancy assignment, is expected to be approximately 40 months.
