Bulgaria may go to court for permitting wind farm near protected area
SOFIA (Bulgaria), September 30 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria has been charged with 14 environmental violations under EU regulations and may go to court in October for granting a permit for a wind farm near nature reserve Kaliakra, environment minister Iskra Mihailova said on Monday.
The European Commission (EC) will decide next month whether to bring the case to court, the minister said in a press release.
The permission was granted despite the proximity of the 190 MW wind farm to the protected home of rare birds. The ministry will hardly be able to prevent the proceedings, minister Mihailova added.
The other 13 environmental violation involve biodiversity, air quality, waste management, GMO and climate protection.
