British Solar Renewables breaks ground on 8.7-MW UK solar park
Jul 23, 2014 - UK renewable energy developer British Solar Renewables Ltd said today it has kicked off construction of a 8.7-MW solar farm in England.
The Canada Farm solar park will be located near Winterborne Stickland in Dorset county, south west England. It will use 35,600 solar panels installed at a mixed-livestock and arable farm. Once operational, the plant will generate enough electricity to power 2,700 local households.
British Solar Renewables pointed out that the project comes to strengthen the company’s relations with UK-based closed-ended investment firm Ingenious Clean Energy, part of UK investment group Ingenious. The latter has provided a total GBP 27m (USD 46m/EUR 34.1m) in financing for this project and two other solar schemes in Somerset and Hampshire.
Negotiations with the local authorities and the community began in 2012, while planning permission for the project was obtained in June 2014. The solar park is expected to commence power generation by the end of the year.
