Brazil's wind generation rises 11% in early July

Brazil's wind power output has increased by 11.1% year-on-year to 6,149 average megawatts (MWa) in the first 15 days of July, according to preliminary figures released by the Power Trading Chamber (CCEE).

Wind power's share went up to 10.1% from 9.3%, according to data published by CCEE in the InfoMercado Semanal, the weekly bulletin for energy generation and consumption.

Among the country's other renewable sources, solar and biomass also grew in the first half of July. The former rose to 340 MWa from 49 MWa while biomass generation increased to 4,696 MWa from 4,377 MWa. Hydropower production, on the other hand, went down to 38,334 MWa from 39,310 MWa.

Brazil's overall electricity generation increased 2.4% year-on-year in the first two weeks of the month, with 60,726 MWa delivered to the National Interconnected System (SIN), CCEE noted.
