Brazil's Tractebel, Weg team up to develop new 3.3-MW wind turbine model
Nov 14, 2013 - Brazilian power company Tractebel Energia (SAO:TBLE3) and energy sector equipment supplier WEG (SAO:WEGE3) said yesterday they will invest BRL 160 milllion (USD 69m/EUR 51m) to develop a new model of a 3.3-MW wind turbine. The new turbine will use 100% locally-produced technologies. Tractebel will invest BRL 72 million in the project, while WEG will provide the remainder. The initiative comes after a call for bids held by the country's electricity sector regulator Aneel aimed at the development of a strategic project for locally-produced wind equipment. The turbine and the associated devices such as the modular concrete tower and blades, will be tested, designed and produced near Tractebel's Jorge Lacerda thermal complex in the southern Santa Catarina state, and is seen to be completed in four years.
