September 20 (Renewables Now) - The board of directors of Brazilian power company Neoenergia SA (BVMF:NEOE3) has given the green light to the construction of the 566.5-MW Oitis wind farm complex.

The Oitis complex will feature 12 wind farms stretching across the Brazilian states of Piaui and Bahia, Neoenergia said in a regulatory filing on Thursday. Two of the parks, Oitis 1 and Oitis 8, were awarded contracts to sell 30% of their power in Brazil’s A-4 auction held on June 28. Power from the remaining ten will be available for trading in the free market. The capital expenditure for the projects stands at around BRL 1.9 billion (USD 455.8m/EUR 413.3m).

The board has also approved a plan to place the order for all Oitis wind turbines with an unnamed first-tier supplier, the filing stated.

The Oitis wind complex is expected to start commercial operations in mid-2022.
