Brazil records 2,367 MW contracted in power auctions so far in 2013
Nov 19, 2013 - With the closure of the yesterday's A-3 power auction in Brazil, the country reached 2,367 MW sold in government auctions since the beginning of 2013. A total of 39 wind power plants, with a combined capacity of 876.6 MW, sold their future output at the A-3 auction yesterday. However, as the country's government will hold one more power auction by the end of 2013, the so-called A-5, the volume of the contracted wind projects is seen to exceed the record set in 2011, when 2,900 MW were contracted, the state-run energy research company EPE projected. In August, Brazil's reserve power auction contracted the future generation of wind power plants with installed capacity of some 1,500 MW. The projects winners at the A-3 auction will have to start supplying electricity as of 2016.
