Brazil awarded today 1,993.25 MW of biomass power supply contracts in the existing facilities energy auction, the Ministry of Mines and Energy announced.
A total of 22 biomass plants were contracted, of which 20 will use sugarcane bagasse as a fuel and the other two will utilize wood chips.
The existing facilities auction is different from other tenders as it negotiates plants in the forms of availability or amount of energy.
All biomass plants traded in the availability of energy form with 20 having one-year supply contracts at BRL 162.47 (USD 42.23/EUR 38.44) per MWh and the other two with three year terms, sold at BRL 129.25 per MWh.
In the amount of energy batch, 1,680 MW average (MWa) were contracted at the price of BRL 147.31 per MWh, all with a three year supply term.
