Brazil approves 85.2 MW of biomass projects from April auction

Brazilian power sector regulator Aneel approved on Tuesday two more winning projects, totalling 85.2 MW, from the April 27 wind and biomass energy auction.

The projects envisages the construction of biomass plants that run on sugarcane bagasse, and were finally given the green light after their owners met certain requirements established by Aneel.

The 40.2-MW Potirendaba project is controlled by local firm Noble Brasil, while the 45-MW Clealco Queiroz scheme is developed by Clealco Acucar e Alcool.

Both projects are located in the state of Sao Paulo and are scheduled to start supplying power on January 1, 2016.

There were 11 winning projects in the April 27 auction, including eight biomass and three wind, with a total installed capacity of 479.43 MW. At total, 16,988,508 MWh were sold at an average price of BRL 199.97 (USD 57.6/EUR 52.2) per MWh.
