Brasil Kirin invests USD 41.9m in 30-MW wind power plant
Sep 2, 2013 - Brazilian bavarages producer Brasil Kirin, owned by Japanese brewer Kirin Brewery (TYO:2503), on Friday announced it would invest BRL 100 million (USD 41.9m/EUR 31.7m) in a 30-MW wind power plant in Acarau municipality, northeastern Ceara state.
The plant will be built by Portuguese Tecneira and it is scheduled to start operation in the second half of 2014. The facility, to cover an area of 214 ha (528 acres), will account for 35% of the power used by the company's plants across Brazil.
Other Kirin's green initiatives include the replacement of natural gas and fuel oil by biogas generated by the wastewater treatment at its plants. These investments totalled BRL 9 million and reduced Kirin's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 22%.
