Bosnia’s Jablanica Hydro Power Plant To Exceed 2009 Prodiction Plan by 14%

SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), November 18 (SeeNews) – Bosnian hydro power plant Jablanica will produce 819.9 gigawatthours of electricity this year, 14% above plan, state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda BiH said on Wednesday.

The positive trend is due to abundant rainfall and because Jablanica’s facilities are in excellent technical condition, Elektroprivreda BiH said in a statement.

Jablanica met its 2009 output target of 719 GWh on November 16. Besides Jablanica, Elektroprivreda BiH owns two other big hydropower plants, Grabovica and Salakovac, and eight smaller hydro power plants .

The utility also operates two thermal power plants, Tuzla and Kakanj.

The power plants controlled by Elektroprivreda BiH have a combined installed capacity of 1,682 megawatts. They generated 7,295 GWh of electricity in 2008.

The power utility operates in the Muslim-Croat Federation, one of the two autonomous parts of postwar Bosnia. The other is the Serb Republic.

A second power utility, Elektroprivreda HZ Herceg Bosne, operates in the Federation, while Elektroprivreda RS is active in the Serb Republic.
