Borrego Solar, sPower break ground on 6.3-MW solar park
Oct 21, 2014 - US solar project developer Borrego Solar Systems Inc and power producer Sustainable Power Group, also known as sPower, on Monday initiated the construction of a 6.3-MW photovoltaic (PV) park in the state of New York.
The sPower Riverhead facility will be constructed on sPower-owned land in Suffolk County, Long Island, sPower said in a statement. The park is expected to produce enough electricity to meet the demand of about 1,100 homes annually and offset about 8,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, once completed. Its output will be sold to US diversified energy company Public Service Enterprise Group Inc (NYSE:PEG) at a fixed rate of USD 0.22 (EUR 0.17) per kWh under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Salt Lake City-based sPower is working on two additional projects in Suffolk County in partnership with Borrego Solar, which is acting as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agent. The plants will interconnect to PSEG’s Long Island power grid and will operate under its clean solar initiative feed-in tariff (FiT) programme.
