German renewables company BayWa r.e. AG announced that it has sold its 64.6-MWp Witnica solar farm in Poland to Ireland-based independent power producer Alternus Energy Group Plc (OSE:ALT).
Financial terms were not disclosed in a press release on Tuesday.
The Witnica plant, located near the German border between Poznan and Berlin, is said to be Poland’s first subsidy-free commercial-scale solar farm, according to BayWa r.e. The solar farm operates under a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gorazdze Cement SA, the Polish subsidiary of German building materials company HeidelbergCement AG (ETR:HEI).
Following the sale, BayWa r.e. will remain with Witnica as the provider of operations and maintenance services for Alternus Energy, the German firm said.
For Alternus Energy, the acquisition represents its official entry into the Polish market.
“We have plans for further expansion within the country over the next 12 months and hope to share updates on that shortly,” Vincent Browne, chairman and CEO of Alternus Energy, said.
“The sale to Alternus Energy aligns well with our goal of developing and selling additional solar capacity in Poland in future years and further highlights the attractiveness of renewable energy assets to investors,” added Benedikt Ortmann, global director of solar projects at BayWa r.e.
BayWa r.e. says it boasts a solar farm pipeline of 600 MWp across Poland. The company has set a goal to develop 1.1 GW in the country over the next five years.
