Oct 18, 2013 - The renewable energy development arm of Britain's The Banks Group said yesterday it had submitted a planning application for a 23.8-MW wind park in Scotland.
The application was filed with the Dumfries and Galloway Council on September 27, Banks Renewables said. The planned Knockendurrick wind project envisages the installation of seven turbines near Twynholm in the Dumfries and Galloway area. The company initially planned to erect 10 turbines at the site but later reduced their number due to technical and environmental issues and feedback from the local community.
Should the application gets the green light, the project will share 3% of its annual gross revenue with the community estimated at GBP 260,000 (USD 421,000/EUR 307,000) per year. For the whole lifetime of the wind power facility, the amount is seen to reach GBP 6.5 million, Banks Renewables calculates. Furthermore, local residents will be able to buy up to 5% of the wind park, in line of the Scottish government’s aim to boost community ownership in renewable energy projects.
The developer recently organised a range of public exhibitions to present the final proposal for the Knockendurrick wind project.
