BA Glass Group to offtake 12.4 MW of solar in Portugal

France’s Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has signed a deal to supply glass packaging manufacturer BA Glass Group with clean power from part of the 50.6-MW Garrido solar cluster in Portugal which has started feeding the first kilowatt-hours into the grid.

The 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) envisages the delivery of electricity from two solar plants in the cluster with a combined capacity of 12.4 MW, Voltalia said on Tuesday.

Garrido consists of five solar projects -- the 23.8-MWp Alcochete, the 11.8-MWp Pinhal Novo, the 11.4-MWp Antuzede, the 2.4-MWp Vale Serrao and 1.2-MWp Oliveira de Frades farms. When fully operational, the cluster should be able to offset more than 46,685 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

With this new agreement, Voltalia noted it has now secured the entire capacity of the cluster under long-term corporate PPAs.
