Austria’s Enso Hydro builds 23 mln euro HPP in Albania

TIRANA (Albania), December 19 (SeeNews) – Austrian company Enso Hydro said on Thursday it is building a 23 million euro ($31.4 million) hydropower plant (HPP) in Albania.

The HPP in the village of Lengarica, in the southeast of the country, will have a capacity of just over 9.0 megawatts and average annual power production, Enso-Hydro said in a joint press release with the Austrian Development Bank (OeEB) and the Green for Growth Fund, Southeast Europe (GGF).

Average annual power production is projected to reach about 32 gigawatt-hours, enough to power approximately 10,000 Albanian households.

The OeEB and the GGF will provide 14.1 million euro in financing, with 5.0 million euro coming from OeEB, and the GGF contributing 9.1 million euro.

Albania has a high hydro energy potential, of which only 35% is currently exploited, the statement added.
