Austrian MPreis to install 1.8 MW of solar modules on its retail stores - report
Oct 21, 2013 - Austrian food retail company MPreis plans to install photovoltaic (PV) solar modules with a total capacity of 1.8 MW on the rooftops of 20 of its restaurants, Wirtschaftsblatt said today.
The company will invest EUR 2.6 million (USD 3.5m) in the project.
The new solar installations are planned to produce around 6 GWh annually which equals the electricity consumption of a municipality with 4,500 inhabitants, the company's spokeswoman, Ingrid Heinz, told the newspaper. The PV modules will cover a total rooftop area of 7,300 square metres (78,500 sq ft).
MPreis aims to power all of its retail units through renewable energy. The company has a total of 225 stores in the provinces Tyrol Salzburg, South Tyrol and Carinthia and has already installed 1.1 MW of solar capacity on several of its restaurants' rooftops.
MPreis Group employs around 5,300 people and reported a 9.6% increase in revenue to EUR 714.9 million in 2012, according to Wirtschaftsblatt.
