Australian Origin signs PPA for Acciona's 46.5-MW Gunning wind farm
Nov 22, 2011 - Australian Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) said today it had entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Spanish infrastructure and renewable energy company Acciona (MCE:ANA) for the latter's 46.5-MW Gunning wind farm.
Located north-east of Canberra and near Origin's Cullerin Range wind farm, the Gunning project came on stream in April 2011. It includes 31 turbines of 1.5 MW capacity each to generate enough electricity to power some 23,250 local households, according to Acciona. The wind farm is estimated to produce 140 GWh to 150 GWh per year.
Origin said the PPA with Acciona would help it fulfill its obligations under the federal government's large-scale renewable energy target. Under the agreement, Origin will receive large-scale generation certificates (LGCs) for 2012 and 2013. After that, the company will receive both renewable energy and LGCs for eight years with an extension option.
In 2008 Origin struck a similar PPA with Acciona for the Waubra wind farm in Victoria.
