Australian Capital Territory gets 17 bids in USD-1.5m storage auction

The Australian Capital Territory's (ACT) AUD-2-million (USD 1.5m/EUR 1.4m) battery storage auction has attracted 17 bids, environment minister Simon Corbell announced on Monday.

The auction seeks to allocated up to AUD 2 million across five companies for the installation of solar storage in Canberra.

"This grant round is expected to support the roll-out of more than 2MW of energy storage across more than 600 Canberra homes and businesses," Corbell said.

The 17 bids received propose to install more than 8MW of storage. The auction round closed on July 6. Short listing will now take place, with the winners expected to be announced in the coming months, Corbell said.

The ACT government supports the installation of 36 MW of energy storage across more than 5,000 Canberra homes and businesses between 2016 and 2020.

Earlier this year, it awarded three pilot grants of AUD 200,000 to install subsidised battery storage in around 200 Canberra homes.
