January 14 (Renewables Now) - Australia registered total installations of 2,132 MW of sub-100-kW solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in 2019, achieving a 35% year-on-year increase, according to local consultancy and market analyst SunWiz.

The rate of installations has been steadily rising since 2016 which saw 719 MW of small-scale systems added throughout the year. In 2017 and 2018 Australia added 1,076 MW and 1,576 MW, respectively, of small-scale solar.

SunWiz attributed the remarkable annual growth to concurrent record volumes installed in every Australian state except Tasmania, but noted the final tally could have been higher if Victoria had not “switched on the brakes mid-year”.
