Argentina switches on 1.7-MW PV plant in San Juan

San Juan province, Argentina, 2.5 MW PV plant

October 25 (Renewables Now) - The government of Argentina inaugurated on Wednesday a 1.7-MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in Las Lomitas municipality.

With a total investment of USD 2.12 million (EUR 1.86m), the PV facility is estimated to generate enough power to meet the demand of more than 1,000 homes, the Undersecretariat for Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mines announced.

The solar farm, developed by local firm Latinoamericana de Energia SA, has a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Argentina's wholesale electric market management company CAMMESA, signed back in May 18, 2017. It became effective on September 25, 2018.

Currently, there are 86 renewable energy projects in development or in commercial operations in Argentina, which represents 3,067 MW of power and sums up USD 4.5 billion in investments, the Undersecretariat noted.
