December 6 (Renewables Now) - Argentina's Ministry of Energy and Mines announced on Wednesday the start of commercial operations of a 22.5-MW solar park in Catamarca province.

With a total investment of USD 29.25 million (EUR 25.77m), the Parque Solar Saujil photovoltaic (PV) facility consists of 77,000 solar panels supplied by Chinese solar manufacturer JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS), the ministry said.

The solar farm, awarded during the 1.5 round of the Argentine renewable energy tender RenovAr, is located in an area of close to 70 hectares (172.9 acres), about 178 km northwest of Catamarca's capital.

According to the ministry's Undersecretariat for Renewable Energy, Solar Saujil is the fifth of its kind to enter commercial operation since 2016.

Currently, there are 79 renewable energy projects in development in Argentina, which represents 2,978.1 MW of power and sums up to USD 4.26 billion in investments, the Undersecretariat noted.
