Argentina has begun signing the contracts with the successful projects in Round 2 of its RenovAr renewable energy auction programme.
The first seven contracts for renewable power supply between Argentina's wholesale electric market management company CAMMESA and the winning companies were signed on Wednesday, the Undersecretariat for Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mines said.
The seven projects have a combined capacity of 112.2 MW and include four solar projects of 360 Energy SA, one biomass and two biogas projects.
The four solar projects are the 72-MW Tocota in San Juan, 6.96-MW Tinogasta II in Catamarca, and the 1-MW Nonogasta IV and 20.04-MW Nonogasta II, both in La Rioja.
The biomass project, called Prodeman Bioenergia and located in Cordoba, has a capacity of 9 MW. It is being developed by Prodeman SAS and will generate electricity from peanut shells.
The biogas projects are also located in the province of Cordoba -- the 1.2-MW Ampliacion Bioelectrica Dos project of Bioelectrica Dos SA and the 2-MW Biogeneradora Santa Catalina of Incisa SA.
A total of 88 projects, representing 2,043 MW of capacity, were awarded as part of the programme's Round 2, which was carried out in two phases. Overall, in the three RenovAr bidding rounds so far 147 projects have been awarded for a combined capacity of 4,466.5 MW.
