Argentina inaugurates 100,000 t ethanol plant in Cordoba

Dec 5, 2014 - Argentine ACA Bio Cooperativa Ltda has officially started up its ethanol plant in Villa Maria, Cordoba province, with a capacity to produce nearly 100,000 tonnes of the biofuel a year for the local fuel market.

Inaugurated on Wednesday, the plant will process 300,000 tonnes of maize, along with sorghum, the government said.

ACA Bio is owned by local cooperatives which represent small- and medium-scale agricultural producers.

In the first half of 2014, Argentina's ethanol production rose 66% year-on-year to 226,217 tonnes, according to data of the agriculture ministry. Maize-based ethanol is gaining importance as it came to represent 59% of total output in that period, compared to 36% in full 2013.
