ARENA gets funding applications for over USD 2.1bn of green hydrogen projects

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) on Friday said it has received proposals for renewable hydrogen projects worth over AUD 3 billion (USD 2.1bn/EUR 1.8bn) in its first funding round for large-scale projects in the country.

ARENA launched the AUD-70-million funding initiative in April and has received 36 expressions of interest in the initial application stage.

Applications were made for over AUD 1 billion in grant requests. The projects submitted for funding relate to nearly 500 MW of total electrolysis capacity, with projects in the 5 MW-80 MW range. Proposals have been made from all over the country.

After assessing the proposals, ARENA will invite shortlisted projects to file a full application. The funds are expected to be distributed by the end of the year.

With this funding round, ARENA will support two or more large-scale electrolyser projects of at least 5 MW, with "a preference" for installations of 10 MW or more.
