Aug 18, 2014 - Andalucia’s economy ministry has provided financial support to 70,277 renewable energy projects via the Andalucia A+ incentives programme for sustainable energy development since 2009, local newspaper Diario de Jerez said today.
The total number of the projects approved within the scope of the programme stood at 86,813, worth EUR 1.2 billion (ISD 1.607bn). Apart from renewables, the total includes also 15,730 of energy efficiency and saving projects and 450 of projects focused on studies and audits, as well as other plans for improvement of energy infrastructure.
The government of Andalucia noted that more than 47,700 local citizens have decided to use solar thermal technology to heat water for their houses. On the other hand, 1,334 locals have receives EUR 3.7 million in incentives for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) or small wind turbines in the isolated parts of the region which are not connected to the electricity grid.
All projects contribute to the reduction in energy use, including savings of more than 220,000 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) a year. As a result more than 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are being prevented from reaching the atmosphere per year.
