Albania's electricity production rose 21.7% to 7,135.9 GWh in 2016, the statistical office, INSTAT, said on Friday.
Albania's power exports almost doubled to 1,868.6 GWh last year from 955.9 GWh in 2015, whereas imports of electricity dropped 22.4% to 1,826.7 GWh, INSTAT said in a statement.
The entire amount of the country's electricity production was generated by hydro power plants, as 5,091.6 GWh, or 71.8% was produced by state-owned companies, whereas the balance came from independent power producers.
The country's power network losses declined 9.6% to 1,985.9 GWh.
Distribution losses accounted for 90.4% of the total network losses, while the balance is attributed to transmission losses. Within distribution losses, technical losses amounted to 1,346.5 GWh, with the rest being ascribed to non-technical reasons.
