April 20 (Renewables Now) - Chilean agribusiness Garces Fruit signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Acciona SA (BME:ANA) to cover its total electricity consumption in Chile with 100% renewables.

The Spanish power producer, through its Acciona Chile unit, said it had started delivering the contracted supply in February this year. The customer’s fruit processing plants in the Maule and O’Higgins regions will be sent electricity from Acciona’s portfolio of wind and solar power in the country.

The Spanish company currently operates three wind farms and three solar parks with a combined installed capacity of 684 MW in Chile. It is also building a 238-MWp solar farm in the Atacama region, with the aim to have the plant in operation in mid-2021, the group said.

Acciona’s corporate customer portfolio in Chile includes telecommunications operator Movistar, technology giant Google, retail chain Falabella and other private and state-owned companies.
