Aug 8, 2014 - German wind farms developer ABO Wind AG said today it has received a building permit for what will be its first approved wind farm in Finland, of 6.6 MW in capacity.
ABO Invest AG (FRA:ABO) has a preemptive right to buy the wind farm. The latter company operates more than 50 wind turbines in four European countries, including Finland.
The new wind farm's two Vestas turbines will be installed in the Nordoesterbotten region. They are expected to produce 12 GWh of electricity annually. Preparations for construction have already begun and the park is planned to be operational in the spring of 2015.
ABO Wind has been active in Scandinavia since 2013. It has partnered with five project developers in Finland, aiming to establish itself on the local market quickly. It is working together with Infinergies Finland Oy on the 6.6-MW scheme.
As at the end of 2013, Finland had 450 MW of installed wind capacity. The country intends to rapidly develop the sector, aiming to reach 2.5 GW of wind farms as soon as possible. To implement its plan, it will give all new wind schemes certain starting bonuses until the end of 2015.
ABO Wind is working on a number of projects in Finland, totalling 300 MW.
