Abengoa reaches 80% completion of 280 MW Solana CSP project
Nov 28, 2012 - Spanish engineering company Abengoa (MCE:ABG) has reached an 80% completion of its 280 MW Solana concentrated solar power (CSP) project in the USA.
The development of the project is creating some 2,000 jobs during the construction stage, while 85 employees will be needed to operate the facility, Abengoa said in a statement today.
Solana's supply chain includes 27 states, among which Kentucky, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri and others, with electricity supply contracts signed with some 90 companies so far.
Abengoa started the construction of the facility, located in Arizona, in December 2010, while the plant is planned to start operation in the summer of 2013.
The Solana plant will produce electricity which will be enough to satisfy the consumption of 70,000 households and to offset 475,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
